HOW TO: AZTEC NAILS

I’ve been wanting to include DIY posts for a while but I haven’t been able to because it’s always hard to find the time! However, ever since I got bored one day and saw a blog post by Gem Fatale on how to do leopard print nails with a liquid eyeliner, a massive lightbulb appeared over my head to do the same with Aztec nails! I’ve been asked quite a lot how to do these so I thought I’d write a post on it.
I’m loving all the Aztec prints this season and decided what better way to save my money on spending it on Aztec print clothes to paint it on my nails instead!
What you will need:
Two different nail polish colours (I used Pink Flamingo by Barry M and light blue – BL602 by The Face Shop )
Top coat nail polish
Black liquid eyeliner (any brand will do but I used Rimmel London Exaggerate)
Cotton buds
Nail polish remover
Step one:
I always like to paint my nails with a base coat before I add colour to them so after you’ve added the base coat and your chosen colour make sure you wait for them to dry before continuing on to step two.
Step two:
After your nails are completely dry and smudge proof, start drawing on the shapes and lines however you like with the liquid eyeliner. I decided to use quite a simple pattern which included straight lines, zigzags and triangles. It’s great because if you make a mistake you can always wipe it off with make-up remover instead of having to re-do the whole nail again!
Step three:
Once the liquid eyeliner is dry (it dries really quickly) start filling in gaps and adding in some lines or dots from the other coloured nail polish. Try to be careful and make sure the nail polish isn’t too gloopy. It doesn’t matter too much if it goes over the black liquid eyeliner because you can always go over it again afterwards.
Step four:
When your nails are all filled out, dry and looking lovely and Aztec-y, make sure to go over all your nails with the top coat because if you don’t then the liquid eyeliner will come off really easily!
And VOILA! You’re done! Send in your pictures of your Aztec nails because I’d love to know how they look!
